AAPPN President
During our July Board meeting it was decided to expand AAPPN’s advocacy to include national policy as well as state policy.
Washington state has been a leader in ARNP practice for decades and AAPPN has played a pivotal role in earning that reputation. As national policy shifts over the coming years, it will be important for AAPPN to use our expertise and leadership to fulfill our ethical obligation to advocate for our patients and our profession.
We are at the beginning of this journey, but I wanted our members to know what AAPPN is doing every step of the way. The two actions we have taken so far are as follows:
To respond to the emergence of national issues impacting the profession in Washington State, AAPPN has joined the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) as an organizational member. We will also explore collaborating with WSNA as they move forward the ANA’s national advocacy efforts.
AAPPN will form a national advocacy committee to help us work with AANP and WSNA around advocacy issues on the national level. The group will help educate and activate members based on AANP and WSNA/ANA resources.
Sara Weelborg, Patricia Morgan, and Zoe Evans-Agnew have volunteered to be a part of the national advocacy committee. AAPPN members are encouraged to volunteer to join this group. The committee will work closely with the AAPPN Legislative Committee to coordinate our efforts.
I welcome any feedback. Please feel free to contact me.
Best regards,
Danielle DeOliveira, PMHNP-BC
