Preceptor Rules Change

April 3, 2019 by AAPPN

Amendments to clarify preceptor rules and reduce barriers for nursing student access to preceptors take effect on April 26, 2019.

Washington State Nursing Quality Assurance Commission proposed amendments to the rule concerning preceptors. The amendments provided rule clarification and reduced barriers for nursing student access to preceptors for the purpose of completing clinical experience. After public comment, the proposed rules were adopted and will become effective on April 26, 2019. Download a copy of the adopted language (PDF).

AAPPN thanks everyone who submitted comments directly to the Washington State Nursing Quality Assurance Commission about the proposed preceptor rules changes. We also thank those who participated in AAPPN’s listserv discussions. We shared a recap of that discussion with the Nursing Commission. Download a copy of AAPPN’s comments (PDF).

We’re dedicated to promoting excellence in our community and are committed to encouraging our members to become preceptors. We look forward to working with the Commission, nursing education programs in the state of Washington, and our members to expand the pool of potential preceptors, especially in the field of Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nursing.
